Message from the Managing Director

The ongoing stabilisation of the international political environment and the major foreign investment in the offshore oil & gas and mining industries within West Africa has created many business opportunities for local and international companies. With this in mind, I believe that Belmet being based in Cape Town, South Africa and Walvis Bay, Namibia is ideally positioned to play an active role in these technologically advancing sectors.

The deepwater exploration and development frontier is relatively new for the oil & gas industry and the material requirements – as drilling goes deeper and operation efficiencies are required to be more cost-conscious – are becoming evermore specialised and challenging. As leaders in the local fabrication industry, we have positioned ourselves to take advantage of the changes in the market place and have entered into formal alliances to offer our customers a more comprehensive service.

We have identified the supply of subsea structures, high pressure piping & fittings and the fabrication of structures requiring more exotic materials, as key competitive growth areas. These new technological developments similarly offer us the opportunity to develop the skills of our own staff through learning from our partners and to further boost the transfer of skills within Africa.

Similarly, the demand for mining products has escalated and the development of new mines throughout resources-rich Africa offers huge potential for the sophisticated fabrication of structures to support these endeavours. Belmet has identified this sector as a growth point and has recently opened a fabrication facility in Namibia and has also registered a company in Ghana to target future opportunities in country.

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Management are of paramount importance to us at Belmet and we will endeavour to minimise our overall risk to a practicably acceptable level. We will conform to all legal requirements (both local and international); abide by customer guidelines; report on all incidents; and continuously strive for an ongoing improvement in all aspects of our business – to the betterment of our customers, employees, communities, environment, and country.
